September 28, 2009 While Will Walker managed to put together his best season last year, the Blue Demons suffered there worst. We had a chance to talk with Will about what went wrong and how he expects to turn things up a notch, both individually and as a team. Will is the lone senior on this year's squad, and wears that moniker proudly. I like the role of being a senior leader because I feel like I have developed a relationship with every one of the guys where I feel like I can help push them to their utmost abilities. How do you motivate yourselves for this upcoming season? The season that we suffered in last year is all the motivation that we need. We were picked last in the preseason for the big east last year and we didn't step up like we were supposed to. Individually, how do you prepare yourself to be a leader on the court during the 2009-2010 campaign? The main thing I am focusing on is my quickness and ball handling. I feel like you can never be too quick and I am going to have the ball in my hands alot more this season so I have to get back comfortable with playing off the (dribble) more. How have the new assistant coaches gelled with the entire staff? I actually have known Tracy for quite some time now, he actually was the guy that recruited me at U of I. I think he is a great coach and great guy off the court to relate to. He has played college ball and that is always a great thing to bring with you when it comes to coaching the game in all aspects. Is the team ready to move forward from last season? The feeling of the team is that we have to bounce back and gain our respect in this conference. We feel much better as (an entire) team and I think that is what hurt us the most last year. Respect will definitely be tough to come by in the Big East, but Will Walker will be tremendously important if the Blue Demons are to turn it around. |
