Despite a late rally, DePaul lost its second consecutive Big East home game, losing 71-62 to St. John's Saturday afternoon at the All State Arena. Turnovers and an off night shooting from three proved to be the Blue Demons demise. In the loss, Jamee Crockett led DePaul (10-8, 1-4) with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. It's the first time all season DePaul's leading scorer was not Cleveland Melvin or Brandon Young. Melvin added 16 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.

Pivotal Moment: DePaul took a 39-37 lead on a Charles McKinney jumper with 16:59 left in the game. St. John's (11-7, 3-3) responded by going on a 26-7 run, which propelled them to a 63-46 lead with 7:36 left in the game. During the run, St. John's shot 12 of 20 from the field. DePaul shot 3 of 12 during the stretch, to go along with four turnovers.

Key Stats: Points Off Turnovers for St. John's

DePaul and St. John's both committed 18 turnovers in the game. The only difference was St. John's capitalized on DePaul's mistakes. St. John's scored 24 points off of DePaul's turnovers. DePaul only scored 10 points off of St. John's 18 turnovers.

DePaul's Poor Shooting Night

DePaul shot 34.7% from the field, and 20% from three. DePaul's second half shooting really set them back. In the second half, DePaul only made 28.6% of its field goal attempts. DePaul head coach Oliver Purnell wasn't pleased with his team's 25 three point attempts, he felt his team needed to attack the basket and get to the free throw line. The Blue Demons only got to the charity stripe 9 times, compared to 20 for St. John's.

Next for DePaul: The Blue Demons next game will be at Pittsburgh (15-4, 3-3) a week from today.

Notes:

Crockett had his best game of the season, and it was a much needed confidence booster for the sophomore. DePaul is looking for a viable third scoring option to emerge; this game could propel Crockett. Although Crockett was DePaul's third leading scorer heading into the game at 8.8 points per game, he's struggled shooting the last two games and with consistency overall.

Moses Morgan had a solid night shooting the long ball. Morgan made 3 of 7 three pointers en route to 9 points off the bench. In his last seven games, Morgan had only made 2 of 18 three point attempts.

Young had a tough night, totaling a season-low six points in 28 minutes of play. He had a season-high seven turnovers in the game. Although he struggled offensively, Young did contribute in other areas. He hauled in 10 rebounds, a career-high, as the team's leading rebounder.

Stevenson point guard Jalen Brunson, a sophomore, received a scholarship offer from DePaul. Brunson was at the game and was offered by Purnell after the game. He is the son of former NBA guard Rick Brunson, who's currently an assistant coach for the Charlotte Bobcats.
